Here are four baseball coloring pages designed for classroom use. Beneath some of the pages you will find activity ideas.
Color in one of these baseball coloring pages and while you are doing that think about what you do when you play baseball.
What advice about playing baseball would you give others. Imagine you are talking to someone who hasn't played baseball before or is trying to improve their skills.
What do you do to make sure you hit the ball? How do you hold your feet? How do you stand? What are you thinking about when you aim for the ball or run for the bases?
Imagine you are explaining what baseball is to an alien visiting the planet for the first time. What is baseball? How is it played?
How well did you do?
This is how Wikipedia describes baseball:
Baseball is a bat and ball sport played between two teams of nine players.
The aim is to score runs by hitting a thrown ball with a bat and touching a series of four bases arranged at the corners of a 90 foot diamond.
Players on the batting team take turns hitting against the pitcher of the fielding diamond, who tries to prevent runs by getting hitters out in any of several ways.
A player on the batting team can stop at any of the bases and later advance via a teammate's hit or other means.
The teams switch between batting and fielding whenever the fielding team records three outs.
One turn at the bat for each player constitutes an inning and nine innings make up a professional game.
The team with the most runs at the end of the game wins.
Here is a quote from Ty Cobb:
"The base paths belonged to me, the runner. The rules gave me the right. I always went into a bag full speed, feet first. I had sharp spikes on my shoes. If the baseman stood where he had no business to be and got hurt, that was his fault."
and one from Babe Ruth
"How to hit home runs: I swing as hard as I can, and I try to swing right through the ball...The harder you grip the bat, the more you can swing it through the ball, and the farther the ball will go. I swing big, with everything I've got. I hit big or I miss big. I like to live as big as I can."
Imagine you are a famous baseball player and write a quote of your own.
